Drum Road Resurfacing

Project Summary

This major urban road re-strengthening scheme was carried out on the Drum Road in Cookstown, at the newly widened Derryloran Bridge. Traffic management was a major consideration in the successful delivery of this scheme as it involved consultation with two large local hotels, playschool management and other local business owners to ensure disruption was kept to a minimum.

The works involved footpath construction at Derryloran bridge, the removal of 5000m² of existing surface layers, 1200m of re-kerbing, drainage works, footpath resurfacing and the complete Asphalt Resurfacing of 9500m² of carriageway. The laying of the Hot Rolled Asphalt surface course layer was mostly carried out at night to cause as little disruption as possible to road users on this main arterial route from Cookstown to Omagh.
